By Hennessy, one of Storm Cats leading sire sons, Cactus Ridge is a product of the Northern Dancer/Mr.
Prospector cross, and stallions bred on that cross are beginning to work well when bred back over Mr.
Prospector line mares. Cactus Ridge is sire of a stakes winner out of mare by Coronado Quest
(by Forty Niner). Hennessy and his sons have stakes winners out of mares descending from Mr.
Prospector through Crafty Prospector, Carson City, Distant View, Geiger
Counter, Gone West, Gulch, Jade Hunter, Miswaki,
Unbridled and his three-parts-brother Pentelicus, and Woodman. Storm Cat line
sires have also done well over Mr. Prospector through Afleet, Conquistador Cielo (and his
son Marquetry), Fappiano (and sons Cahill Road, Cryptoclearance,
Quiet American and Rubiano), Thunder Gulch, Kingmambo and
Seeking the Gold.
Mr. Prospector is a son of Raise a Native, and Storm Cat and his sons have also done well with
mares descending from Raise a Native through Exclusive Native (and his son Affirmed),
and Alydar. Hennessy has three stakes winners out of mares by Alydar, and two stakes winners,
including a grade one winner out of a mare by Alydar's son, Saratoga Six. Other sons of Alydar who
have promise here include Turkoman, Easy Goer, Alysheba, Strike the
Gold, Criminal Type, Jeblar and Wheaton.
Storm Cat line stallions have crossed very well over Seattle Slew line mares. Hennessy has a stakes
winner out of a mare by Seattle Slew's son, Seattle Song, and other Seattle Slew sons that are
broodmare sires of Storm Cat line stakes winners are A.P Indy, Capote, General
Meeting, Gold Legend and Slewpy.
Storm Cat and his sons have been very successful with Damascus line mares, this cross producing
Hennessy's Champion, Johannesburg, who is out of a mare by Ogygian. Cactus Ridge has stakes
winners out of mares descending from Damascus via mares by Time For a Change (record-breaking
stakes winner Hollywood Hit) and Unaccounted For (by Private Account, also sire of the
second dam of a grade one winner by Cactus Ridge); Timeless Moment (sire of Gilded
Time); Eastern Echo; Crusader Sword; and Bailjumper (sire of Skip
Away).
The cross of Storm Cat line stallions over Blushing Groom line mares has been an extremely
successful one with nearly 40 stakes winners, nine of them grade one. Cactus Ridge already has a stakes
winner out of a mare by Runaway Groom (sire of Cherokee Run), and other good sources
of Blushing Groom will be Rahy, and Mt. Livermore.
Cactus Ridge's grade one winner Hot Cha Cha is out of a mare by Broad Brush (who is sire of
Include, Concern, Best of Luck and Mongoose). He also has a stakes
winner out of a mare by Phone Trick, a son of Clever Trick.
